A Sip of Summer

As we move from spring into summer, the world around us begins to bloom in full color—longer days, warm breezes, and the first tastes of summer’s easy pace. There’s a certain magic in this time of transition, a chance to pause and soak in the beauty of the season’s shift.

This season, we’re inspired to get outside and take in the simplicity of nature. Right now, I am in awe of the tiny budding leaves, the tulips pushing their way toward the sun, and the garden surprise of “how did that get here?!”

At Welcome Home, we believe that tending to life means also tending to yourself. While we’re all about creating beautiful spaces with our linens and tableware, we also know the importance of slowing down and embracing the moments that nourish the soul.

As the weather warms, get outside. It’s so easy to get stuck behind the desk, eyes on your phone, and forget that hours have passed. There will always be, “one more call” to make, email to send, and text to answer. But there are only so many minutes in the day.

Grab your favorite snacks and throw them in one of your many reusable grocery bags. Spread a soft throw in the grass, and let the day unfold slowly. Whether it’s a simple stroll in the park or an afternoon under the shade of a tree, a walk around State Circle, Wilmer Park, or Washington Avenue - these little moments outside can be the most grounding. These days I do not have the luxury of spending an entire day lounging - few of us do - but even 20 minutes does wonders for clearing your mind.

My favorite cooking blog is Love and Lemons. Here’s a Sparkling Raspberry Lemonade recipe, inspired by their cooking and food style.

As the weather gets hot, I want a bright, tart mocktail to sip on during the late hours of the afternoon. One that combines the refreshing zest of lemon with the natural sweetness of raspberries, blueberries, or blackberries. Basically tart + sweet (but not too sweet).

Cheers to late-nights under the stars and refreshing dips in the pool!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh raspberries

  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice

  • 1-2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey (to taste)

  • 1 cup sparkling water or club soda

  • Ice cubes

  • Lemon slices and fresh mint (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. In a blender, combine the raspberries, lemon juice, and maple syrup. Blend until smooth.

  2. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove the raspberry seeds.

  3. Fill glasses with ice and pour the raspberry lemonade mixture over the ice.

  4. Top with sparkling water or club soda, and garnish with lemon slices and a sprig of mint.
